|
Utila is the smallest of the Honduras Bay islands and is located approximately 18 miles (29 km) from the Honduras mainland port of La Ceiba. It is surrounded by extensive coral reefs with prolific undersea life. It is also well known as one of the least expensive diving locations in the world.

With over 60 dive sites to choose from including 3 wrecks (such as the famous Halliburton), the diving here is always fun and interesting. Utila is also famous for Whale Shark encounters! Whale sharks are the world's largest fish growing up to 45 ft in length. They feed on zooplankton, snapper egg and shrimp and are completely harmless.

There are numerous restaurants and bars here, all of them locally owned and operated. One of the most interesting is the Jade Seahorse and Treetanic Bar. It is definately worth a look!

Getting around Utila is easy. There is one main road that runs the length of the bay, and can be walked from one end to the other in less than 30 minutes. Taxis are available, as well as bike, scooter, and golf cart rentals. Most people here speak English. US Dollars are accepted as readily as Honduras Lempiras. There are also 2 banks and an ATM here for your convenience. |

How to get here: The Utila Princess, a passenger ferry, runs 2 times daily between the mainland port of La Ceiba and our dock at the center of town. Utila has a small Airport that receives several flights a day from Aerolineas SOSA and Atlantic Airlines.
